Description
'A Journey Through Islamic Art’ is one of two publications produced in conjunction with the 25th anniversary celebration of Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia. In this book, over 150 artefacts have been selected to represent the extraordinary diversity of Islamic art. The results of a quarter of a century since the museums’ opening in 1998, it has become a world-renowned leader in a field that has captured countless imaginations. This book chronicles a collection that has grown beyond recognition. From humble beginnings, the collection has matured into one of global significance. The museums’ mission is to display the brilliance of Islamic culture across its chronological and geographical entirety. This has been accomplished with carefully assembled works that are representative of artistic creativity from every corner of the Muslim world. In addition to an especially strong showing from often-overlooked locales such as China and Southeast Asia, there are also items of exceptional importance from the legendary empires of the Safavids, Ottomans and Mughals. The museum has now chartered a course for the next 25 years, despite the intrinsic artistic value of the artefacts on display; every object in the collection has a special story to tell.
